We enjoyed our last homebout of the year so, so much. For some of our VRD Beasts it was their first bout ever. Thanks to our great community and audience we feel so much derby love. Bout days are a lot of work, but it pays off as you can see here. There are so many people behind the scenes who work hard to get these big events working. Weeks of planning, organising, setting up and finally many, many helping hands are needed for a self-organised league and event. A big shoutout to everyone who helped us this year with time, money, cakes and cheering for our teams, we see you and it means the world to us.
Game 1: Limoges vs. Copenhagen B
Both of the teams, Limoges “Porcelain Dolls” and Copenhagen Roller Derby All Stars B gave their best and competed in the first round with a result of Limoges 243 : 63 Copenhagen B.
Halftimeshow: FLINTA* Arm Wrestling
Just the brave ones dared to compete against our VRD Oysters in the FLINTA* Arm Wrestling Action during the first halftime. Since they did so well, we gave all of them free tickets for a future homebout.
Game 2: VRD Beasts vs. Copenhagen B
What a game. Our VRD Beasts did so good and held on to every block and jam. Exciting moments to watch when training becomes reality and a team grows together so fast and well. Final score: VRD Beasts 215 : 118 Copenhagen B.
Halftimeshow: Fearleaders
Once again the Fearleaders show their daring stunts and inspired the audience.
Game 3: VRD Beasts vs. Limoges
This game was crazy. Limoges is such a strong team and it was a hard battle between the Lineups. Unfortunately an accident happened during the second period of the game and it had to be stopped. The teams agreed on the actual score as the final result of VRD Beasts 153 : 129 Limoges.
Halftimeshow: Powerjam
Cuteness overload: the outfits, the sparkle, we hope there will be more shows next year 🙂
Voices from the audience
“First time Derby spectator here and I became an instant fan. What I enjoyed most was the sport’s competitive but respectful element, not just between the teams but among the audience as well. That really stood out to me and made for a relaxed, but no less thrilling, day!”
– Charli
Derby is being “confused the first time about what’s even happening and still completely captivated.” The inevitable “oof” you hear when someone gets a pretty bad hit and falls. The cheer when your favourite Jammi makes it past the opposing blockers. Going to roller derby is like leaving patriarchy outside the door and then cheering on your favourite team while the skaters are fighting in a bunch and you have no idea who is ahead.
– Flo
We look forward to an exciting new year! Stay tuned, come with your friends to our bouts, we appreciate it!
